Making vegetable momos follows a similar process to making chicken momos, but with a vegetarian filling. Here’s a basic recipe for making veg momos:


  • 1 cup finely chopped mixed vegetables (such as cabbage, carrots, bell peppers, mushrooms, etc.)
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onions
  • 2-3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch piece of ginger, minced
  • 2-3 green chilies, finely chopped (adjust to taste)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • Momo wrappers (readily available in Asian grocery stores or you can make your own dough using all-purpose flour and water)


  1. Prepare the Filling:
    • In a mixing bowl, combine the chopped mixed vegetables, onions, garlic, ginger, green chilies, soy sauce, vegetable oil, salt, and black pepper. Mix everything well until evenly combined. Adjust seasoning according to your taste preferences.
  2. Assemble the Momos:
    • Take a momo wrapper and place about 1 tablespoon of the vegetable filling mixture in the center.
    • Fold the wrapper over the filling to form a half-moon shape. Pinch the edges together to seal the momo. You can create pleats along the edge for a decorative touch if desired. Repeat this process with the remaining wrappers and filling.
  3. Steam the Momos:
    • Once all the momos are assembled, place them in a steamer basket lined with parchment paper or cabbage leaves to prevent sticking.
    • Steam the momos over boiling water for about 10-12 minutes or until the dough is cooked through and the filling is cooked.
  4. Serve:
    • Once steamed, serve the vegetable momos hot with a dipping sauce of your choice, such as soy sauce mixed with a dash of vinegar or a spicy tomato chutney.
